The MPO staff has sufficient resources to complete this work in a capable and timely manner. By undertaking this work, the MPO staff will neither delay the completion of nor reduce the quality of programmed MPO work.
In 2007, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) requested that the Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) create neighborhood maps for most of its stations. CTPS created a neighborhood map that displays a half-mile radius from each of the selected MBTA stations complete with street names, buildings, points of interest, and the connecting MBTA bus routes. Keolis has requested that CTPS update five of these maps and create the same type of neighborhood map for each of the nine MBTA commuter rail stations.
Create nine new neighborhood maps for Keolis-selected MBTA commuter rail stations, and update five existing neighborhood maps.
CTPS will create new neighborhood maps for the Beverly, Norwood Central, West Natick, North Billerica, Stoughton, Middleboro/Lakeville, Reading, East Weymouth, and Roslindale Village commuter rail stations, and update the neighborhood maps for the Fairmount, Forest Hills, Ruggles, Porter Square, and JFK/UMass stations.
Using the latest mapping software and data, CTPS will create a neighborhood map for each of the nine stations showing streets, street names, building footprints, points of interest, and MBTA bus routes. Each map will include a “You Are Here” designation at the station location and a quarter-mile-radius ring depicting the distance of a 5- to 10-minute walk from the station. CTPS will provide Keolis with a draft map for each station upon completion.
Nine draft neighborhood maps
CTPS will update five of the neighborhood maps created in a previous work program—Fairmount, Forest Hills, Ruggles, Porter Square, and JFK/UMass. The updates will include changes to bikeshare and MBTA bus stop locations, new points of interest, and any infrastructure changes (buildings and streets) since the completion of the existing version.
Five updated neighborhood maps
Based on feedback received from Keolis and/or the MBTA, CTPS will make any requested changes to each map. CTPS will provide the final computer files to Keolis for production of the final maps.
