Active Transportation Planning

Home » MPO Work

The MPO engages in a variety of efforts to improve the safety, comfort, and ease of travel for people biking and walking throughout the Boston region. MPO staff support the Boston region's active transportation planning needs through ongoing data collection, the work of the Active Transportation Steering Committee, analysis, and technical assistance.

NO-HEAT Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program

The MPO is currently working on a two-year project uses data and tools that help us understand how people who walk, bike, and use transit are exposed to heat risk. We are currently working with the cities of Chelsea, Everett, Framingham, and Revere to identify specific corridors for future interventions.

The Boston Region MPO Bicycle and Pedestrian Count Data Application

Members of the Steering Committee include municipal staff, community-based organization representatives, faculty from academia, and state and regional planning agency employees.
