We recently launched a Trending Topics page on bostonmpo.org to make some of our most recent and most requested research easily accessible. The first topic highlights transportation finance. Our report on transit funding is a technical analysis of strategies that MBTA peer agencies use to generate revenue. We evaluated ten approaches in the areas of vehicle access fees, road usage fees, and value generated by transit and considered how those approaches might apply to Massachusetts. We also issued two publications on roadway pricing: one with case studies of five urban areas in the United States that employed roadway-pricing strategies and a two-page summary of key learnings from the study.

Our research has been featured in the news recently. The State House News highlighted the delivery of the MBTA Sources of Community Value report to the MBTA board, as did the Boston Globe. Earlier this year, Commonwealth Beacon summarized a preview of the methodology planned for the MBTA funding strategies research that our colleagues gave to the MPO board. The Boston Globe included the MPO’s report on roadway-pricing programs in the United States in an article about congestion pricing.
